Breaking News: Border Crossings Drop

The southern border has been an active political topic in the news rotation. This topic has been very divisive between both political parties for different reasons.

The Democratic party views the border restricting illegal immigration and the decline of border crossings negatively because they think that immigration (even if it's by crossing the border illegally under U.S. law) is a good thing for the country. They believe this because they think it brings more workers and resources. Additionally, the Democratic party believes it is the morally right thing to do because many immigrants are fleeing dangerous living conditions where they used to live. Despite the current stance on immigration from the Democratic party, they actually used to be more against illegal immigration, such as during the administration of former President Obama during which he deported many illegal immigrants.

Conversely, the Republican party believes illegal immigration is a negative thing for the country. This stance from Republicans is for a variety of reasons such as systems possibly being overwhelmed by the large influx of immigrants. Additionally, Republicans believe that if many immigrants are let into the country at the same time, then criminals can pass through too. This stance on immigration from Republicans has been constant for a long time and shows no sign of changing.

Public opinion in favor of stricter immigration policy is shown by the majority of citizens in this country approving of stricter immigration policy, which has resulted in a large drop of border crossings today. But despite public approval, this issue has remained very divisive and there are no signs of that controversy changing.
